As regards France, and with the support of the whole research community, this data is of a quality far superior to that of the data most commonly used.
The OST-WOS database is an enhanced version of the Web of Science. This international bibliometric database indexes more than 22,000 journals and conference proceedings meeting scientific and editorial quality criteria. More than 45 million research articles are listed in this publications database, with close to 2 million articles added each year. The OST-WOS database includes the Emerging Sources Citation Index, which contains a significant proportion of non-English-language journals and journals in the humanities and social sciences.
For several years the OST has also used other open data sources, such as OpenAlex, HAL and institutional repositories, to complement its studies.
To take ever fuller account of institutions' publications, they are invited to take part each year in recognising their scientific publications. Lastly, in the interests of better assessing the quality of scientific contributions, the OST builds indicators from data on article retractions and the quality of publication venues.

The OST's patents database is built mainly from data supplied by the European Patent Office (PATSTAT database), the OECD (REGPAT database) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It covers close to 100 national and regional patent offices worldwide.
Over the period 2000-2025, our patents database contains more than 57 million patent applications. Each year the OST carries out specific work to identify French patent applicants by their SIREN number, drawing in particular on the INPI patents database and the INSEE SIRENE database, and creating reference lists for public applicants. The OST also produces an institutional classification of applicants worldwide (public or not-for-profit institutions, or companies).

The e-Corda database brings together information on European research and innovation funding. This database includes all funding under the “H2020” and “Horizon Europe” programmes. It also includes information on funding from the European Research Council (ERC), set up in 2007 to support exploratory research projects at the frontiers of knowledge across all scientific fields, on the sole criterion of scientific excellence.
These framework programmes together represent funding of close to €180 billion. They are organised around major pillars such as scientific excellence, European industrial competitiveness and innovative Europe. These programmes are implemented by funding mainly collaborative, European research projects through calls for proposals. This funding may involve both public and private stakeholders.
Data on clinical trials is drawn from the Clinical Trials database. This database, run by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is a leading public register enabling the registration of clinical trials conducted worldwide. It provides access to a wide range of information on ongoing or completed clinical studies, such as the sponsor's identity, the investigators involved, the type of trial and the results obtained.
